About ZiggyNa

Ziggy

Many wonder where my nickname of "Ziggy" came from and what "ZiggyNa" has to do with anything. It is a little complex but has a lot to do with my middle name and having been in the Philippines. Hopefully I can explain both without being too boring.

My nickname comes from my middle name. Sigmund is a little unique and of course I have been called Freud, Sigmund the Sea Monster and a lot of other teasing names. While it may have bothered me at one time at this point in my life I don't care what you call me. A name is just a way of addressing someone and if you are not going to use the chosen moniker for someone then it just speaks to your character.

So, why Ziggy? Well, probably because I am a little short and chubby (just like the cartoon character) and it is similar to my middle name. Someone else gave me the moniker and it has kind of stuck (even my family has started using it). I have been introduced to so many people as Ziggy that they may become confused if you use my real name.

"ZiggyNa" is a little more complex. While I am not an expert on languages, during my time in the Philippines we often used the term to mean "hurry up". The term "ZiggyNa" comes from the Tagalog phrase of "sige na" which actually means "come on, do it" and "siga na" which means "go now" or "hurry now". I have seen lots of debate on both terms and their actual meaning, but like any other translation to English there are differences because of regionalities, dialects and those doing the interpreting.

Naturally the military folks stationed in the Philippines would use slang pronunciations of words to mean something different from the original word. The original terms were changed to "ziggy now" as a slang term meaning to "do it now" or "hurry up". And of course it was further modified to shorten the pronunciation (most likely to sound more like a local) and it became "ziggy na".

And "hurry up" describes my personality. Always driving, always in a hurry to get things done so I can move on to the next thing. And of course folks called me "Ziggy" back then and some even called me "ZiggyNa" from time to time.

Now with all of that in consideration, I wanted to find something cool for a domain name. Something easy to say, easy to write, kind of catchy and most important something that was available for registration. So after a little thought and research, I found ZiggyNa was available and felt it reflected the intent of this site. Just a quick website to give out information on myself, give folks a way to get in touch with me (without all the spammers and telemarketers slamming me), and provide a way to share things with family, friends and relatives. Thus, ZiggyNa was born and in just a few short hours a website was up and running. Nothing fancy, just a quick action so I can move on to the next thing in life.
